Your Driving Lessons FAQ Answered

By successfully completing required hours both in vehicle and classroom as per the guidelines by Alberta Transportation in order to receive Course Completion Certificate.  Please check our offered courses for more information or contact us.  


No, driving lessons are not mandatory in Alberta. However, professional lessons can significantly improve your skills, confidence, and chances of passing the test.  


It depends on your experience, everyone learns at a different pace:

Beginners: 10–16  hours recommended

Some experience: 6–10 hours

Test preparation: 2-4 brush-up lessons

*each lesson is 2 hours long in a vehicle 


Yes, however your vehicle will be inspected by the examiner prior to the road test to ensure your vehicle is road worthy as per the Alberta Transportation guidelines.  

Must have valid original vehicle registration and insurance.

Safe and roadworthy (good brakes, tires, no warning lights, no tint on front driver and passenger windows, no crakes on windshield, all signal lights, all brake lights incl. HCM brake light), clean and presentable.   


You can book your test through Alberta Registries or any authorized registry agent. 

Or consult your driver instructor on road test booking. 



Yes, we offer car rental for road tests for $90+gst.  A warm up equipment introduction will be given prior to the road test, meet up will be at the registry location where the road test will be conducted. 


The class 5 road test is 45 minutes long from start to finish. 


Yes, you can retake the road test the next day depending on availability but not the same day.  Only one test per day. 


Your AllRoad Driver Instructor will explain in details during your driving class session, but here are few to mention:

  • Not checking mirrors or blind spots
  • Rolling stops at stop signs
  • Speeding or driving too slowly
  • Poor lane positioning
  • Failure to yield 


Yes, parallel parking is part of the road test.


Road tests usually continue in most weather conditions unless it is unsafe. Driving safely in different conditions is part of the evaluation.
